Frequently asked questions

Quickly find practical information about categories, exams, registration, practical training and payment.

What may I operate with a Category B licence?

According to the official website, Category B covers private boats up to 15 m and yachts up to 18 m without crew, within 12 NM of the nearest coast. Always confirm final requirements with the competent harbour master office.

How long does the Category B course take?

The course is organised as a one-day preparation session. It usually lasts about eight hours, although some published summer dates have adjusted times shown next to the date.

What is the difference between Categories A and B?

Category A is intended for smaller boats up to 7 m with engines up to 15 kW, within 6 NM of the coast. Category B covers larger vessels and a wider navigation area and is generally the more common choice.

Who is the RTF course for?

Supplementary radiotelephony is intended for people holding an old licence issued when radiotelephony was not included.

How long is practical training and where is it held?

The individual practical course lasts approximately eight hours. It is held on Krk around Soline Bay or in Rovinj by prior arrangement.

What is included in the practical training price?

The published price includes the boat, skipper, fuel and lunch. One non-participating companion costs an additional €30 and one additional participant €100.

Where is the exam held?

The exam can be taken at the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure at Prisavlje 14 in Zagreb, or at harbour master offices on the coast, depending on the program and date.

Which documents do I need for the exam?

The application, photographs and document copies differ by category. After registration you will receive current instructions and the form; confirm the current fee before paying.

Is a form submission immediately confirmed?

The form records your enquiry. The date and availability are confirmed only after Nautika klub contacts you directly.

What do I receive after registering?

For Category A, Category B and RTF programs, the official website lists PDF course notes, a signal table and the relevant exam application.

How are the course and exam paid for?

The course and government exam fee are shown separately. You will receive the exact method and deadline in the registration confirmation; published prices may change.
